August 8, 2007 - TWINS PLACE BRIAN BUSCHER ON 15-DAY DISABLED LIST

Club selects the contract of infielder Tommy Watkins

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced Wednesday, August 8th that they have placed infielder Brian Buscher on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to August 7) with an infection in his right leg.

To replace Buscher on the 25-man roster, the Twins selected the contract of infielder Tommy Watkins from Triple-A Rochester in time for Thursday afternoon’s game. In 110 games with the Red Wings, Watkins batted .272 (95-for-349) with 22 doubles, eight home runs and 49 rbi, with 39 walks and 12 stolen bases. Watkins will wear uniform number 61 for the Twins.

Watkins, who is a Fort Myers resident, played all four infield positions as well as in the outfield for the Miracle in both 2002 and 2003. He had been on the Twins 40 man roster until being added to the 25 man roster earlier on Wednesday. This will be Watkins' first time with the Twins during the regular season. He has spent time with the Twins big league camp during spring training.
